Project 1

Alright kids, although not great, here's what I ended up with for our first project a couple weeks ago. It's a product of using the Signal Box by HdM as a precedent of a bottom-up component skin system (still hate the word "skin"). So through a series of surface translations and interpretations we developed our own system and then used that to create a pavilion-like enclosure of 3000 cf. Finally, we introduced an "artifact," in my case a collection of books, which added a limited element of program to the project. Anyhow, like I said, not great, but it is what it is.

  1. maybe you should do something new bolos, instead of reworking the same project. the urban library was a good idea, but not THAT good.

  2. "it is what it is." is that some universal architecture school tenet? it's been modified to "it will be what it will be" here. we at pratt like to think in terms of the future.

  3. We at Yale try not to project as to what the future will be as a singularity, but are more interested in the current implications of how architecture affects the now, while understanding that the present is neither independent of the past or completely indicative of what architectural multiplicities the future will hold.
